I-57 312 INTERCHANGE


The I-57 interchange at Court Street (Exist 312) is a vital link to the transportation network for Kankakee County. IL Route 17 is
a major east-west corridor that links I-57 with I-55 to the east. According to Illinois Department of Transportation, more than
30,500 vehicles per day are on I-57 at Exit 312, while Court Street/Route 17 has more than 15,000 vehicles per day.


    The City of Kankakee is leading the effort
    to motivate the State of Illinois to reconstruct the interchange. Current designs, with tight, confining curves, create a challenge for contemporary transportation needs. Preliminary designs envision relocation of the I-57 centerline slightly to the east to allow for the construction of a more standard diamond design.
