The Economic and Community Development Agency is Seeking Feedback for Housing, Non-Housing and Homelessness Needs in the Community

Kankakee, IL – Kankakee’s Economic and Community Development Agency (ECDA) is asking Kankakee residents for feedback regarding housing, non-housing and homelessness needs throughout the community. The Kankakee ECDA is required to provide a concise summary of the nature and extent of these needs. A survey, one for each topic, is available for residents to complete. This information will be used to help establish priorities in the City of Kankakee for the next five years.

“The Economic and Community Development Agency (ECDA) is asking for citizen input as we develop strategies to enhance the economic strength of our community through housing, economic development and community development. These three surveys are one piece of our outreach to gather information from citizens to help guide programs in our 2020 Comprehensive Plan. We will continue to engage the community to ensure that our programs are making the desired impact,” said Executive Director of the Economic and Community Development Agency, Barbi Brewer-Watson.

The City of Kankakee has received Community Development Block Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The primary objectives of the CDBG program are to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment and expand economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income residents.

“Making government more accessible is part of the Kankakee Forward agenda.  It is important for the administration to hear from the residents who live here so that we can make sure we are meeting the needs of the community.  Doing so informs our decisions when we are prioritizing needs and allocating resources,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

The surveys are located on our website, www.citykankakee-il.gov. The surveys will be open through October 31, 2019.
