Martin Luther King Jr. Park Rental Form


Please fill out the following information below:

Park rental includes use of the entire park property including three garbage cans, five tables, three benches, and playground. Renters are responsible for bringing additional tables, chairs, tents, or any additional items needed for their event. Please note the park will still be open to the general public. Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Please turn in this completed form in the online portal, over email at, or to the ECDA office located at 200 E Court Street Suite 410, Kankakee, IL, 60901.


Renters will be charged a $50 deposit fee to secure their event date, but this will be returned after the event. Renters are responsible to clean up the park after their event, or the deposit will not be returned. Renters who need to cancel their events will receive their deposit back. Please give us a 72-hour notice if event is being cancelled. If cancellation is due to bad weather, renters will receive deposit back. If park space was set up for the event and bad weather led to a cancellation or the event ending early, the renters are still responsible for cleaning up the park to receive their deposit back. Deposit will be returned as a check and applicant will receive a call when check is ready to be picked up. If there is a violation to this agreement such as the park is not cleaned up, damage to park done, or event guidelines are not followed, the deposit will not be refunded and renters will receive a written notice. Additional fines can also be issued.

Please note: There is no electrical hookup at this park, organizers will need to provide their own electric source, such as a generator.

Park Guidelines:

  • If serving food, the health department needs to be contacted (see below)
  • No alcoholic beverages allowed on park property without a special event permit through the Kankakee Liquor Commission located at the Mayor’s office at 304 S. Indiana Ave., Kankakee, IL 60901 (Special liquor permits are only available for non-profits and require liquor liability insurance)
  • No pets allowed; glass containers are prohibited; use of firearms is prohibited
  • The City of Kankakee reserves the right to relocate any event due to unforeseen circumstances and to immediately terminate the event if any violations of the agreement are discovered
  • Events, including cleanup of events, need to end by 11 pm
  • Motorized vehicles prohibited off roadways and beyond parking areas
  • Control noise levels – please be respectful of others

If Serving Food

You must have the Kankakee Health Department approve you and either give us a letter of approval. (

If you need the Department of Public Works (DPW)

You will be charged a $50 fee if DPW resources are needed to assist with safety, garbage cans, or traffic signs. Event setup and clean-up is the responsibility of the renter.

General Liability Insurance

Renters are responsible for securing liability insurance for all activities on City property in the amount of $2,000,000 combined single limit per occurrence for bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury with a general aggregate of $4,000,000 limit. The City of Kankakee shall be named as an additional insured on a primary and on-contributory basis under the policy or coverage.

Liability Waiver

Renters are required to sign the City of Kankakee Use of Property and Hold Harmless Agreement.


All renters must be at least 21 years of age. The individual signing this form is held responsible for the rental.
