The Healthy Homes Program addresses multiple childhood diseases and injuries in the home. This program addresses a variety of environmental health and safety concerns including: mold, lead, allergens, asthma, carbon monoxide, radon, home safety, as well as the use and storage of cleaners and pesticides.
City-wide lead removal from income eligible rental united or owner occupied homes to help keep pregnant women and children under the age of six healthy and free of lead poisoning.
The Private Security Camera Incentive Program creates an incentive for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions to purchase and install security cameras that are intended to help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations. The program offers rebates for the purchase of security cameras.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program supports community development activities to build stronger and more resilient communities. To support community development, activities are identified through an ongoing process. Activities may address needs such as infrastructure, economic development projects, public facilities installation, community centers, housing rehabilitation, public services, clearance/acquisition, microenterprise assistance, code enforcement, homeowner assistance, etc.

The City of Kankakee has allocated over $350,000.00 of its federal American Rescue Plan Act award to fund a local small business grant program titled Kankakee Works.
The Rental Rehab program makes available $20,000 per unit up to 10 units for City of Kankakee landlords to help improve their property. This is a five year forgivable loan program.
The Moderate Income Rehab Assistance Program (MIRA) provides an opportunity for City of Kankakee residents who are within the low to moderate Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income limits to have access to housing rehabilitation dollars to improve their homes.
